A glittering event In the evening, Jaeger-LeCoultre organised a gala dinner to celebrate their relationship with the sport of polo. CEO Jerome Lambert and Jacques Thomas, Brand Manager España welcomed over three hundred members of the international polo elite along with eminent local personalities. The party was an extravagant affair, entirely taking over the Santa Maria Polo Club. The cosmopolitan guest list included the Duchess of York, a great fan of polo and of the Sotogrande championship, actress Ines Sastre, Spanish TV presenter Carolina Alcazar and top Latin American fashion model Astrid Munoz. During the gala, CEO Jerome Lambert presented a check for 16,000 Euros to the Countess of Asalto - Teresa Morenes, Director of the Nuevo Futuro Foundation. International Polo Tournament of Sotogrande For the second year running, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup was organised on the playing fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club as part of the International Polo Tournament of Sotogrande (Cádiz, Spain). The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup that took place from 19th to 30th August 2008 drew some of the world’s finest players, horses and equipment. A close-fought match For the very first time, all five Squadra Ambassadors were gathered for this occasion. The mixed polo match featured an entirely Argentinean team competing against an international team in what proved a fascinating event for polo enthusiasts. The International team was composed of Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador Clare Milford Haven, alongside elite players Pablo Mac Donald, David Stirling and Augustin Merlos. World number one polo player Adolfo Cambiaso led the all-Argentinean team starring the four other Jaeger-LeCoultre Squadra ambassadors: the captain himself along with Eduardo Novillo Astrada, and the newly presented young players Lía Salvo and Juan Martin Nero. After 4 chukkas (7-minute periods), the match ended in a tie, with both teams scoring six goals. However with 6,000 euros going to charity, with 500 euros donated for each point scored, everyone was in fact a winner. In addition to the points scored, the entrance fees were also donated to the foundation. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup at the International Tournament of Sotogrande, celebrating its 37th edition this year, has established itself as one of the greatest high-handicap professional polo events in the European calendar. Further buoyed by the unveiling of the Reverso Squadra Lady collection, the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre is undoubtedly becoming one of the main actors in the polo world through the sponsorship of the best international matches and some of the best worldwide players such as Adolfo Cambiaso, Juan Martin Nero or Eduardo Novillo Astrada, present in Sotogrande.
