Audemars Piguet receives dual honours at the 2007 Watchmaking Grand Prix in Geneva |
Audemars Piguet was singled out for two awards at the 7 Watchmaking Grand Prix, held at Geneva’s Grand Theatre on November 14. Le Brassus Manufacture received honours in the Sports and Design categories, winning over the jury with two outstanding timepieces: the Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team chronograph and the Millenary watch with deadbeat seconds and AP escapement. The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix awards ceremony gave Audemars Piguet a chance to cement its reputation as a leading maker of sports watches since the 1972 release of the Royal Oak, the world’s first luxury sports watch. The Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team—which combines the mechanical performance of a split- second chronograph with regatta countdown function, with the use of groundbreaking watchmaking materials in the form of forged carbon—was voted best Sports Watch 2007. George-Henri Meylan, Brand CEO: “2007 was a particularly successful year for Audemars Piguet. In the wake of Alinghi’s outstanding win, the timepiece created to mark the occasion has received its own reward: recognition and approval from watchmaking experts and enthusiasts. This represents a twofold success for us today.” Le Brassus Manufacture also won the Design award for its Millenary watch with deadbeat seconds. The exceptional timepiece with its groundbreaking design is powered by a complex mechanism and offers a subtle blend of beauty and innovation in watchmaking. “The two prizes we received this year perfectly illustrate a unique Audemars Piguet trait: our collection comprises both sports watches and classic timepieces with extremely complex mechanisms. Our expertise covers a wide range of product categories and I am convinced this is one of our greatest strengths,” adds a delighted Georges-Henri Meylan PC | | Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team Chronograph Reference : 26062FS.OO.A002CA.01 Movement: Calibre 2326/2848, selfwinding Case and bezel: Forged carbon; back stamped with a motif depicting the team in action and engraved with the inscription Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team – Limited Edition Pushers and crown: Ceramics Dial: Black with «Méga Tapisserie» pattern; openworked hands shaped like a ship’s prow; Alinghi logo at 3 o’clock Strap: Vulcanised rubber; oversized buckle Functions: Hours and minutes, flyback chronograph with regatta start function; regatta countdown function
