 Research, development and innovation have always been the strong points of Officine Panerai since it was founded, and the company has always excelled in the technical area. Coming to the fore in 1938 with the production of the first professional diver’s models for the Royal Italian Navy, but already with almost a century’s experience in the field, Officine Panerai has recently made a further leap in quality by creating some manufactured calibres, or to be precise, calibre which are designed, developed and made within its own workshop. In 2008, Piaget continues to demonstrate its expertise in the field of mechanical movements by presenting a new complication calibre designed, developed and produced within its Manufacture for the Emperador Coussin Perpetual Calendar model, as well as by extending its star Altiplano collection, now available in a 40 mm version. Reflecting its rich history, the latest decade has been one of intense creativity for Piaget in the area of mechanical movements, with no less than 17 such proprietary calibres emerging from its workshops over the past ten years.
BEDAT & CO launches a new collection in a shape that is unprecedented in the brand range, the first such major introduction since 2004. This key new development to be unveiled at Baselworld 2008 confirms the new aesthetic direction adopted by William Devine in 2007. N°2 will now be the number used to refer to BEDAT & CO oval watches. In choosing numbers to name its collections, BEDAT & CO has opted for powerful time-defying values that convey a definite sense of differentiation.

By creating Beleganza Lady, the Swiss watchmaker Balmain is today making the deliberate choice to demonstrate its attachment to the woman. Beleganza Lady is the illustration of classical elegance made for women. This model asserts the magnificent vitality of the Balmain woman whilst at the same time portraying the qualities of calm, serenity and gentleness which are an everyday feature of a woman's waking moments. The sober design of the dial communes with and mollifies the force from the diamond-set bezel.

Officially launched at Baselworld 2008, the Snow collection from Icelink transcends a legendary model: the 6Timezone, a gemwatch made up of six dials for six time zones, placed on a gemwatch that is distinct from all other timepieces. The 6Timezone Snow diverts one of the dials from its original function. The hour initially shown in this sixth timezone is replaced by the never-ending spectacle of light snowfall covering a superb microlandscape with each movement of the wrist.
